Utilities Maintenance Technician I
College Station, Texas
- Perform rounds to monitor equipment for proper operation and trending towards adverse conditions by assessing operational parameters, alerts and alarms
- Perform daily inspection and minor preventive maintenance of HVAC units
- Routinely rotate redundant equipment and systems
- Monitor chilled water and heating hot water distribution loops for proper operation and adjustment based on manufacturing demand or seasonal changes
- Perform daily RO water testing for system performance
- Perform routine blow downs of plant steam boilers and monitor water conductivity
- Monitor water consumption and look for water conservation opportunities on utility systems
- Monitor consumption of chemicals, replenish and reorder chemicals used on the utility systems
- Monitor bulk gas storage system
- Monitoring and operation waste decontamination and neutralization
- Alert maintenance technicians, management and/or manufacturing staff if utility systems experience an upset condition that could impact the facility or manufacturing processes
- Provide maintenance and operational support for clean and plant utility equipment, including utilities such as Water for Injection (USP) systems, clean steam systems, RODI water systems, air compressors, steam boilers, chillers, heating hot water boilers, cold rooms, freezers and liquid waste discharge systems.
- Technician will be trained on critical environment controls, maintenance on critical laboratory equipment within GMP clean rooms and environmental controlled areas.
- Able to work with operators and technicians in helping to perform troubleshooting or reliability tasks on other temperature controlled process equipment, such as bioreactors, centrifuges, micro-filtration skids, and autoclaves.
- Ensure compliance, as set forth in internal quality protocols and SOPs including cGMP and FDA regulatory guidelines.
- Able to perform routine work orders and maintenance functions with little supervision after training and work in support of technicians or specialized maintenance contractors or OEM on more complex equipment interventions.
- Provide support and assistance to EH&S department in drafting SOPs, auditing facilities, etc.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Abilities:
- Understanding of proper tool use, and ability to work safely in and around equipment.
- Basic knowledge of mechanical and electrical principles.
- Able to identify potential problem areas of equipment that is malfunctioning, using technical manuals or P&IDs.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communications skills. Must be able to understand written communication and SOPs to execute preventative maintenance procedures or assist other technicians in the understanding technical equipment.
- Ability to learn quickly and work effectively with little supervision when needed.
- Experience with problem solving, able to think through a problem or equipment malfunction to arrive at key items to check.
- Working knowledge of MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).

- Minimum High School Diploma, with some follow on technical education or training in a technical area in a College or University with two (2) years of relevant maintenance work experience in a bio-pharma research, manufacturing facility or related industry with the above listed equipment.
- Trade licensing such as AC&R, Electrical, and/or Stationary Boiler Operator is a plus.
- Experience in a maintenance or mechanic role in a manufacturing facility.
- Understanding of clean room construction and basis of function.
- Experience in any additional maintenance trade highly desired (apprentice electrician, HVACR, boilers, pump maintenance, etc.)
- Knowledge of computerized instrumentation, micro-processor controlled operations, and micro measurement equipment is beneficial.
- Knowledge of bio-medical, bio-technical equipment, both upstream and downstream desirable.
