Lab Engineer II
Research Triangle Park, North Carolina
The Laboratory Engineer II is a mid-level position in the Laboratory Engineering department of FDBU. This position will directly report to the Associate Director, Engineering, but may also have a functional reporting relationship to a senior colleague on a project to project basis.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Work under general supervision with limited latitude for independent judgment (30%)
- Consult with senior peers on non-complex Laboratory projects to learn through experience (5%)
- Demonstrate basic skills with moderate level of proficiency in administrative work (5%)
- Demonstrate an understanding of GMPS, safety, SOP, discipline practices and terminology (5%)
- Employ basic laboratory engineering troubleshooting using hand tools and test measurement equipment such as digital volt meters, flow meters, temperature indicators. (10%)
- Assist in developing SOPs and laboratory engineering documents (10%)
- Perform back-ups of the Laboratory instruments and systems as needed (5%)
- Perform instrument calibrations (20%)
- Other duties as assigned (10%)
The Laboratory Engineer II will be expected to attend all internal hands-on training for the SOP’s in the curriculum assigned to the position.
BSc. degree or equivalent; or four to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Laboratory Engineer 2 is a mid-level position in the Laboratory Engineering department of FDBU, however having two years of GMP experience would be a plus.
The Laboratory Engineering department provides 24 hour support for manufacturing and laboratories.
This position will be required to support off-hours requests.
The Major Equipment and Systems that are supported include:
Ultra Performance Liquid Chromatography (UPLC)
High Performance (Pressure) Liquid Chromatography (HPLC)
Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry
Chromatography Data Systems
Experience using laboratory equipment such as pipettes, balances, pH meters.
Ability to work in a cross functional team environment
FDBU works with technical data, technology and materials that are subject to U.S. export laws and regulations. This position will require access to technical data, technology and source code that is controlled under U.S. export laws and regulations, including but not limited to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations at 22 C.F.R. Parts 120 – 130 and Export Administration Regulations in 15 C.F.R. Part 730 – 774, as may be amended.
